Troubleshooting Handbook for Centrifugal Pumps
Author: Prof. Dr. Dušan FlorjanÄiÄ, SmokuÄ, Slovenija
Published by: Turboinštitut d.d.

We at Turboinstitute are proud to publish and present this monumental work on the field of centrifugal pumps.

The book is designed for field engineers, plants maintenance personal, design and project engineers. It can also be used as a reference book based on authors own experience, gathered specially in thermal power plants, hydrocarbons and oil industry as well as large liquid transport systems. Furthermore, it also includes comprehensive experience of other experts from this area of activity.

The most probable causes of centrifugal pumps or system malfunctions are described. Based on the diagnoses of problems observed during operations, the recommendations and suggestions for improvements are given. Main goal is to increase reliability and availability of pumps and consequently the system itself.

The book will assist project engineers in avoiding troubles during specific operations, as well as help them in determining and localizing their causes when difficulties do occur. It is a tool for retrofitting recommendations, improving the design of centrifugal pumps or their parts in order to improve their operational characteristics and to avoid variety of possible malfunctions.

100th model turbine acceptance test in Turboinstitut
At the beginning of July the 100th model turbine acceptance test was successfully accomplished. From the first model acceptance test for Mratinje HPP (3 x 118 MW) in 1970, 48 model acceptance tests were performed for HPP’s with Francis turbines, 25 for HPP’s with Kaplan turbines, 10 for HPP’s with bulb turbines and 12 for HPP’s with Pelton turbines, respectively. Model retesting of world known turbine producers (Voith, Alstom, LMZ, ČKD, Impsa) was performed for 15 models.

100th model acceptance test was performed for Bhavani Kattalai HPP located on the Cauvery river in South India, Tamil Nadu state, for units which will be installed in 2nd and 3rd dams.

100th model acceptance test was performed on the completely refurbished bulb turbine test rig with improved testing characteristics.
