Troubleshooting Handbook for Centrifugal Pumps |
Author: Prof. Dr. Dušan Florjančič, Smokuč, Slovenija Published by: Turboinštitut d.d.
We at Turboinstitute are proud to publish and present this monumental work on the field of centrifugal pumps.
The book is designed for field engineers, plants maintenance personal, design and project engineers. It can also be used as a reference book based on authors own experience, gathered specially in thermal power plants, hydrocarbons and oil industry as well as large liquid transport systems. Furthermore, it also includes comprehensive experience of other experts from this area of activity.
The most probable causes of centrifugal pumps or system malfunctions are described. Based on the diagnoses of problems observed during operations, the recommendations and suggestions for improvements are given. Main goal is to increase reliability and availability of pumps and consequently the system itself.
The book will assist project engineers in avoiding troubles during specific operations, as well as help them in determining and localizing their causes when difficulties do occur. It is a tool for retrofitting recommendations, improving the design of centrifugal pumps or their parts in order to improve their operational characteristics and to avoid variety of possible malfunctions.

Conference: Centrifugal Pumps |
The conference Centrifugal Pumps - Operation and Troubleshooting was organised by Turboinštitut. It was held in Ljubljana on July 2, 2008. About 60 attendees were participating in panel discussion lead by Prof. Dr. Georg Gyarmathy, which was based on lectures of four invited lecturers:
 - Prof. Dr. Dušan Florjančič: Critical overview of the historical development and achievements of pumps
- Ass. Prof. Mihael Sekavčnik, Faculty for Mechanical Engineering Ljubljana: Thermal power plants - pillar of thermal energy conversion
- Ass. Prof. Dr. Andrej Lipej , Turboinštitut, Ljubljana: Past, present and future of computational fluid dynamics in turbo machinery
- Prof. Dr. Miloš Nedeljković, Faculty for Mechanical Engineering Belgrade: Mechanical engineering studies reform with focus on specialisation in pumps
In the second part of the conference the author Prof. Dr. Dušan Florjančič presented his book Troubleshooting Handbook for Centrifugal Pumps, which was published by Turboinstitut.
The proceedings of the conference will be issued till the end of the year 2008 and distributed to the interested - please use our e-mail:

LSC Adria opening ceremony video clips |
Foto: Jares Based on many years of experience in setting up and using server clusters for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Ljubljana Supercomputing Centre LSC Adria was designed and realized in cooperation with IBM Slovenia and SIMT d.o.o. creating the most powerful supercomputer in the region.
LSC Adria official opening is scheduled for Monday, 12. May 2008.
Cluster building block is IBM BladeCenter H. Each BladeCenter contains fourteen server blades, LAN and InfiniBand switches. Each blade is equipped with two quad-core Intel Xeon processors L5335 2.0GHz 8MB L2 1333MHz/50W and 16GB PC2-5300 CL5 ECC DDR2 RAM. For storage of simulation and calculation data a scalable disk array is available. |
